my two weeks at soundwind young life camp
For the past few years I’ve been really interested in being the “guest musician” at a Young Life camp somewhere for a session over the summer. This spring I asked around to some friends of mine that work from Young Life, and through a series of events my friend Jimmy was able to secure me a slot to play at a Young Life camp called Southwind for middle school kids. I was ecstatic about having such an awesome opportunity and an avenue to sell my new CD as well.
I was at the camp Southwind (in Central Florida) for 2 weeks of campers, and it totally surpassed all o my expectations. Every night in Club I would lead regular “fun” songs, and then I’d perform one of the songs I’ve written. These songs were typically related to the speaker’s (Jimmy) talks. I busted out some of my older songs which was cool… the songs I played over the 6 nights were: This Girl, Someone to Save Me, These Thoughts, Were You There?, It’s Never Enough, and Sunset over Southwind. On the 5th night I played a surprise concert for the campers which was a blast. The campers were really responsive and I had so much fun sharing my music with them and hanging out over the two weeks. I also met a ton of great people who were on the assignment that I certainly hope I run into again next summer!
